Mysteries of Oaxaca continued

What goes on behind these high walls, and .... what amazing trees will burst into bloom next!

Last Friday, March 24th, was Good Samaritan Day at the San Feilpe Chruch

Starting at 3pm, free aguas were handed out by the church to all comers. Aguas are drinks of flavored water, such as water with mango juice. A few varieties were available, mostly types I had never heard of before.

It was my friend Beth (sunglasses) that clued me in that Good Samaritan Day was about to happen

This stand was unique, handing out  (unflavored) holy water.

I've always enjoyed that the bell rope is right in front of the church, vulnerable to mischevious kids clanging the church bells

3 pm is also when the primary school right next door lets out, so lots of school kids came for the free drinks

Back to Xochimilco, to photograph street art and graffiti

On the bus to Monte Alban last week, I met a woman from San Francisco who was very interested in graffiti. This got me interested in returning to Xochimilco, where last time I introduced my blog post with a few choice photos of street art. This trip I discovered the motherload of Oaxaca graffiti, in an alley behind the High School. And you from the bus, if you read this blog, please send me an email, jayfroggy (at) yahoo.com

Trip to Monte Alban with friend and fellow mandala weaver, Yacyara

Here we are, in front of my favorite Monte Alban site, the building that determined the times of the changing of the seasons

We had planned a day of mandala weaving, but first needed to wind yarn into balls and prepare sticks
No matter the tangles encountered, it was a great day

Of course we did do some looking around

And did eventually get to some weaving of Ojos de Dios
